Meet Water Tiger
There’s something about antiques that’s always entranced us. We guess it’s because they remind us that the world is incredibly vast and there are so many stories to gain and treasures and trinkets to collect. Antiques are a doorway to the places we’ve never been, the places we long to go and the places that ceased to exist long before we did.
Our fascination with antiques has led us to Water Tiger, an antique store nestled in Sydney’s Inner West. The store’s a result of Kathrin Bruce’s passion for ancient and modern Asian pieces that she amassed while living in the East for over 20 years. It’s a celebration of the history, culture and passion of the artisans throughout Asia.
In Chinese mythology, a water tiger is a creature with an unquenchable thirst for adventure, travel and new ideas. Bruce’s store encompasses all of these characteristics. A step inside Water Tiger is like a step inside different parts of Asia, especially India, Turkey, China and Indonesia where most of the pieces are sourced. Water Tiger allows you to experience glimpses of each country’s varied culture and history. Bruce’s store features soft furnishings, homewares and tiny trinkets that serve as gentle reminders that the world is bigger than we can imagine. What we love most about Water Tiger is that each antique has its own story and it carries with it the story of the artisan.
